Conqueror or Conquered?

Pastor CesarJudges 18:7 - We are entering the second phase of our project of conquest in the second half, if we are conquerors can not be won by the lies of the world.
In the 18th chapter of Judges we find the tribe of Dan looking for a place in the land of promise. The leaders sent five men to look for a value they could take land for an inheritance. These scouts then present a report to leaders on the people of the land, the provision of land and energy needed to take it.

The observations that the spies did over the city of Lais and their inhabitants are found in verse 7. The five spies reported that this was a place ruled so badly and so poorly guarded, it would be easy prey for the invader.

There was little incentive to go against the city. They present the city as something desirable, but above all they present the city as easily achievable.

It took only 600 men to conquer Lais. It was a hundredth part of the tribe. When they entered Canaan, the Danites were more than 64,000. But only 600 were needed to win Laish (Judges 18:21).

By comparing verse 7, with 27 and 28, we find four reasons why that city could be so easily conquered. These same things that made the city vulnerable are the very things that can lead us to fall also.

"1. Were Safe"

Lais was a badly protected town. The people of Lais was careless, quiet and safe, its doors were left open and the walls were fragile. This fact does not bother them. They were confident. They had no apprehension of any danger.

Too much security and peace makes us careless and vulnerable.

Security can be a sign of faith, when we depend on God. But security is a sign of excessive pride. When we are secure we become too careless.

Many are driven to destruction by their pride. Satan gains an advantage against us when we are proud.

The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, O you who dwell in the clefts of rocks, high in your home, and sayest in thine heart, Who shall I lie on the ground? Ob 1:3

Pride is a rock on which many stumble.

Pride goeth before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Prov. 16:18

Before destruction, boasts the heart of man, and before honor is humility. Proverbs 18:12

Pride leads to a careless living and a life of underground and with it comes the destruction.Being safe also means being accommodated. When there are no challenges or problems to face as we become a city without walls.

"2. They were at peace and trusted"

They took what Micah had made and the priest who had, and came to Laish, to a people in peace and trust, and smote them with the sword, and burnt the city. Judges 18:27

This means that they had no kind of conflict.

It may seem strange, but the conflict is the sign of a healthy life. One of the most serious is when there is no conflict in our souls.

Where there is conflict there is no growth and no change. Where there is conflict there is nothing happening.

"3. They were not subject to anyone"

There was no judge on earth that could confront them and expose their condition.

Those who live without civil government are deprived of the means that God designed to restrain evil and promote good and to protect us from the aggression of the other.

Each man did what he wanted to do. There was no authority over them. The authority is essential to peace and prosperity of one person, one church, one people and one nation. It is never safe for a man just do what is right in his own eyes.

We are governed by the Spirit of God through His Word and the leaders of the house of God. The people of God must be a people saved and covered by the spiritual authority. One who can never submit to anyone is one easily achievable.

Who is your disciple? Who is the person who can speak in your life?

"4. They were alone (did not have fellowship with anyone)"

Nobody had to deliver them, because they were far from Sidon and had no dealings with anyone, it was in the valley near Beth Rehob. Built a city, and dwelt therein. Judges 18:28

Loneliness makes us vulnerable. N verse 28 we read that they did not care about anyone, and therefore no one cared about them. They assumed that they could live alone without help or companionship.

Jesus recognized the need for companionship when you sent every two 12. The Father acknowledged the need for companionship when he made a help meet for Adam. The Holy Spirit has recognized the need for companionship, as He says in the book of Acts: "Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work I have called them."

Man was not made to live alone. People need to communion, and the church is a body full of life in communion.

You can not isolate themselves from the church without becoming vulnerable to evil.

Two are better than one, because they have good reward for their work. For if they fall, one lift up his fellow; there, however, than is alone when he falls, no one will help him up. Also, if two lie together, they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? If someone wants to prevail against him, two shall withstand him; the cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9.

  • We need each other when it comes to work (9)
  • We need each other when it comes to walking (10)
  • We need each other when it comes to heat (11). Nothing like the communion to keep your heart warm.
  • We need each other when it comes to war (12)

You will not be a Christian alone, so we have the house churches that are our cells, instead of practicing Christianity, attention to each other.

The five spies from the tribe of Dan recognized that the town of Lais was a city easy to defeat. There was no problem in taking that city people because it was a reckless, careless and alone.

You will be an easy target for the devil, if you allow these four things into your life.
