The Purpose Of The Church
Mt 16.13-20 - We see in the Bible that God created man to express his glory. Adam and Eve were made in the image and likeness of God, not about physical resemblance, because God and Spirit, the idea and act as God. It was part of the duties of man to exercise dominion over the earth, that is: To represent God's dominion over all the earth.Adam should be the representative of God's government.
This mentality has been missing from United to the church today. For after the fall man has not had the conditions to exercise the area and was dominated by the condition of land.
Vices dominate the man, the alcohol comes from the earth, tobacco comes from the earth, the earth is marijuana, cocaine comes from the earth.
Surrender to God
II Corinthians 2:14 - All day we have with God demands. The Lord requires something from us and we resist. We are slow to obey, and hesitated before his will. We apologize, try to ignore and make us deaf. But all this is useless. God does not change what He wants from us! Therefore, surrender!
Some time ago we saw pictures on television of the U.S. Army yielding a group of rebels in Afghanistan. The rebels had to raise his hands and knees laying down their weapons. So should the church, kneeling with hands raised their weapons testifying before the Lord. Surrender is a military term. Yields only one who is at war.
Unlikely People
Jonah 1 - I am an unlikely person! And most likely you will also be an unlikely person! Our life is so, however, God writes his story with real lives, real people like you and me!
Our life with God is something transcendent, as God writes our story, he writes from what we are, the way we are! God reigns over the story! He is the Lord of history - He rules my story and its history - and there's nothing we can do or not do, that makes Him love us less! Also, there's nothing else to do that God loves us more!
Sometimes we feel unlikely for something we have done, or believe. A sin, perhaps. "God will not forgive me." Sometimes we doubt our future, and when we can not "look there is a future for us" and cling to the past, the past robs a lot ...
